Tibet Tours

Tibet is more vast, exotic, and inspiring than anyone yet to visit can imagine. It contains the world's highest lakes and greatest river systems, tallest ice tibet toursmountains and spectacular hot springs, forested valleys and even volcanoes. Much of the flora and fauna are unique on earth. And the light! The luminosity of a pollution-free landscape as close to the stars as people can comfortably live... has to be seen. The fantasies that Tibet has inspired are not fictitious; they are real.It remains the jewel in the lotus, a distant horizon, a lost world, Shangri-la, the realm of fascination and wonder rightly called the Hidden Kingdom in the heart of south central Asia.
Go to the most beautiful locations or the religious sites in Tibet where you can take your whole family for holiday celebration or religious practice. Students from school or colleges can also take the Tibet tour easily. We are one of the few Travel Agencies that operates this kind of tour with full safety under the rules and regulations of the Tibet Tourism Bureau. We use Sherpa crews from Nepal to provide the same high level of services as on our camping treks.

Getting there

By Air:
Daily flights to Lhasa operate from many major cities in China including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzen, Xian, Chongqing, Kunming, Zhongdian and more. Chengdu has the highest frequency with at least 8 direct daily flights to Lhasa.

Flights from Lhasa to Kathmandu operate at least four times weekly in the high season. Lhasa airport is located about 1 hrs drive from downtown Lhasa. The taxi fare is around US$20 although most tourists will have transport pre-arranged.
There is also an airport at Bangda, serving Chamdo, in Eastern Tibet. Flights to Chamdo only operate from Chengdu and Lhasa. However it is necessary for foreign tourists to obtain special permits from a Lhasa travel agent in order to use Chamdo airport.

By Rail: A railway service now operates to Lhasa from many major cities in China. From Xining the journey time is about 22 hrs. and much longer from other cities. It is advisable to reserve train tickets to/from Lhasa several days in advance, though it is usually not possible to book tickets more than 10 days in advance. Lhasa railway station is only a few kms from downtown.

By Road: Roads link Tibet to other provinces in China in all directions. Main roads go to Kashgar, Golmud, Xining, Chengdu and Kunming.
The Friendship Highway leads from the Nepal border to Lhasa. It takes about 15 hours to drive non-stop from the Nepal border to Lhasa, but most tourists take four or five days to cover this route taking in the sights of Everest Base Camp, Shigatse, Gyantse and Yamdrok Tso on the way.
It takes about four hours to drive from Kathmandu to the Nepal border.

Visa and Permits
Almost all PRC embassies in foreign countries issue individual tourist visas for China, which can be used for Tibet also. When you apply for your China visa you should not state you intend to visit Tibet. At Chinese embassies in most countries you are typically given a 30 or 60 days visa. Try and apply for a 60 day visa. Visas cannot be extended in Tibet, but can be easily extended in cities such as Chengdu, Kunming etc

After you have obtained your visa, Alpine Adventure Club Treks & Expedition can arrange your Tibet entry permit and flight tickets (or road permits) in advance and deliver them to you in the city in China from which you are entering Tibet. Alternatively you can book a flight and Tibet entry permit from a travel agent once you reach a gateway city (such as Chengdu), although it is often necessary to send a deposit in advance to the agency to secure your reservation, especially if you want to travel onwards straight away, or during the busy holiday periods.

As per today's regulation of P.R.C., you will not be able to obtain an ordinary individual tourist visa for China from the embassy in Kathmandu unless you have proof of an air ticket to a city within China such as Chengdu (that is, not to Tibet).

If you want to travel to Tibet from Nepal, you must get a group visa from a travel agent in Kathmandu who will go to the Chinese embassy on your behalf. These 'group' visas typically cannot be extended once in Tibet/China.

Nepal Border: If you intend to enter Tibet from Nepal you should not get a China tourist visa before you arrive in Nepal as it will be cancelled.
No matter how large or small your group, Alpine Adventure Club Treks & Expedition can arrange your group visa in Kathmandu.
